How to plan a business website

A website project is easier to scope when you can explain what it needs to do. Before discussing colours or features, write down the audience, business purpose and actions that matter.

Define the main action

Decide whether visitors should enquire, book, buy, apply or find information. Several actions can exist, but each important page needs a clear priority.

Map the information visitors need

List the questions people ask before choosing you. These questions help identify service pages, pricing explanations, FAQs and contact information. Avoid creating pages that repeat the same answer.

Separate essentials from later improvements

A booking connection may be essential; a complex portal may belong in a later phase. Identify requirements that affect launch and features that can wait. This makes estimates more useful.

Identify content and system owners

Confirm who supplies images, approves copy and manages access to the domain, hosting and connected tools. Delays often occur when these responsibilities are unclear.

Discuss the whole cost

Ask about development, subscriptions, licences, hosting and ongoing support. Compare proposals by scope and responsibilities as well as price.

Prepare your brief

Bring your current website, audience description, key services, essential features and preferred launch period. A clear brief gives the first conversation enough detail to move towards a realistic plan.

Send your brief or tell us which parts you still need to define.
